O título grego deste livro é Apokalypsis (aquilo que está sendo descoberto); os leitores, porém, podem sentir que não há muito revelado. O Livro do Apocalipse não parece concretizar o que seu título promete, confundindo seus leitores com todas as imagens, figuras e números que ali encontram. Os pastores geralmente só pregam a sétupla série de cartas escritas às sete igrejas existentes na Ásia Menor, registradas nos capítulos dois e três. As pessoas consideram o livro como sendo Escritura, porém deixam de fazer uso dele como tal. Para muitos leitores, Apocalipse não é revelação, mas, antes, um mistério profético que excede ao entendimento humano
