Editorial Compliance

Literary Highways, February 9, 2022

We believe that we all have stories to tell.

We believe that it is these stories, arising from our experiences, expectations, or imagination, and passed down from generation to generation, that make us human.

We believe that these stories, traveling around the world, change fates, futures, and the course of humanity.

For this reason, freedom of speech is one of our most sacred values.

Everyone should have a voice. Everyone should get their chance. Everyone should be able to tell and share their stories.

But as much as we value diversity, we understand that freedom without responsibility cannot endure in the long run.

That’s why we, at Literary Highways, have created this document on editorial compliance, which sets out the parameters and boundaries within which we believe freedom of speech exceeds the limits of social, individual, and collective responsibility.

With utmost transparency, we make it clear that all books published on Literary Highways, the largest platform for independent literature in Germany and one of the largest worldwide, are welcome – except for those that violate the following conditions.

  1. Plagiarism, partially or completely, of any other literary work.
  2. Glorification of crimes of any kind (including the separately mentioned third point, which deserves special attention)
  3. Incitement or provocation of discrimination or prejudice based on race, skin color, ethnicity, religion, or national origin
  4. Spread of "Fake News", including the dissemination of false news and the creation of theories that accuse individuals, entities (public or private), or nations without minimal proof of justification

Whether through unwarranted analysis by our algorithms, systems, or teams, or through complaints from readers, we will remove any work from our platform that falls within the above parameters. We believe that freedom is the most sacred value of humanity – but we also believe that the survival of freedom of speech depends on the responsibility of expression.
