How can I design my cover?

You can use one of the covers provided by our system or partially or fully customize your own. In the latter case, it is important that the cover meets certain requirements from Literary Highways.

Partial configuration means that you only design the central part of the cover (the main image), with the header, footer, and back standardized, and reserved for the printing of the title/ subtitle, author name, and description. To partially design your cover, choose the option to use Literary Highways' standard cover templates.

In the fully customized configuration, you determine the entire cover yourself, with no system interference.

In both cases, the images need to be adjusted to fit the file. Both the book flaps and the back cover are generated by the system based on the information you provide during the publishing process. Click here to see how to adjust and edit the cover image.

How do I create a catalog card?

Since Literary Highways is a self-publishing platform, it does not offer free proofreading or layout services for the works published here. This means that if an author publishes a work with errors, whether in spelling, grammar, or layout, it will be printed exactly as is. However, if the work is submitted proofread and well-designed, it will be published that way.

If an author needs professional support for proofreading, layout, or book cover design, Literary Highways provides access to a specialized online shop where such services can be purchased from experts. You can find the shop at http://profissionaisdolivro.com.br.

We recommend that all readers browse the first pages of the works on our website before purchasing to ensure that the content quality meets their expectations.

Are books reviewed and laid out?

Professional services can be purchased from a shop specifically set up for authors. All you need to do is visit http://profissionaisdolivro.com.br and select the desired package or customize your own. All services can be tracked online, and you will receive your professionally edited work back.

It is important to emphasize that all professional services (proofreading, layout, cover design, etc.) are optional. It is not necessary to purchase any of these services for your work to be published here at Literary Highways. They are simply an added convenience for authors who wish to use them.

I need professional services such as editing, layout, and cover design. How can I access these?

Yes, anytime. To make changes, log in to your dashboard, go to "My Books," and then to "Published Books." Select the book you wish to edit and click on "Edit." Then, follow the instructions. You can change the cover, the book's interior pages, and the price as often as you like.

Can I edit my book (including price)?

Yes, anytime (unless your book is in pre-sale). To make changes, log in to your dashboard, go to "My Books," and then to "Published Books." Select the book you wish to edit and click on "Edit." Then, follow the instructions. You can change the cover, the book's interior pages, and the price as often as you like.

Can I use a pseudonym?

Yes. During the publishing process, you enter the author's name – this can be your own or any other name. This change has no impact on the royalties.

How can I promote my book?

Literary Highways offers a range of free online courses for marketing your book. To access them, visit Author Academy.

Distribution in bookstores?

Literary Highways currently has the world's largest distribution network for printed books and eBooks among all self-publishing platforms. You can view our entire network (and the specific requirements of each bookstore to resell your book) here.

Costs and Sales
How do I set the price of my book?

During the publishing process, you upload the file of your book to Literary Highways. Our system will then calculate the number of pages in your book and display a calculator showing all the printing costs – this is where you set your royalties. In this field, you need to specify your profit margin per sale.

Why do I need to provide my bank details?

Literary Highways uses your bank details exclusively for paying out your royalties. Without this information, a payout is not possible.

Who owns the royalties?

Royalties belong exclusively to the author. Literary Highways does not retain any royalties and does not require exclusive rights. Authors can remove their books from the Literary Highways website at any time, which is even easier than the publishing process.

How do I receive my royalties?

Once you have accumulated at least 10 €, you can request a transfer to your account. To do so, navigate to Dashboard > My Sales and Royalties and request the transfer at the designated place.

Do I need to pay anything to publish a book on Literary Highways?

No. Literary Highways is completely free for authors; no purchase or minimum print run is required.

I received a discount voucher. How do I use it?

Vouchers can be obtained through promotions or collaborations between Literary Highways and various institutions. These offer discounts, either percentage-based or as a fixed amount. To use your voucher, simply make your purchase as usual and enter the voucher code at the end. For more information, please visit the link https://literaryhighways.com/en/webpage/cupom.

ISBN
What is the ISBN?

The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is an internationally standardized system that uniquely identifies books by title, author, country, publisher, and even by edition. It is also used to identify software and can be converted into a barcode, overcoming language barriers and facilitating distribution and sales.

Is an ISBN required to register a book on Literary Highways?

No, an ISBN is a method of cataloging books, but it does not define what is or is not a literary work. The focus of Literary Highways is on enabling authors to publish their works, with the content being considered the most important element.

Why is an ISBN important?

An ISBN greatly facilitates making your work discoverable and distributable. For example, if you were to enter an agreement with a bookstore to promote and sell your book, an ISBN will likely be required. Similarly, some websites or social networks focused on books may require an ISBN. While having an ISBN is not mandatory, it is recommended. Since the costs are relatively low, it is worth it.

Is a new ISBN necessary for changes to the work?

In general, changes to works should receive a new ISBN. A new ISBN should be assigned for:

  • "any new edition of a work";
  • any edition in a different language;
  • any volume of a multi-volume work as well as for the complete work (collected edition);
  • any new edition with content changes;
  • any type of medium, format, processing, and cover;
  • facsimile reprints;
  • separate editions (if they have their own titles and page numbers);

Note:

  • A simple reprint of a book does not require a new ISBN;
  • Changes such as the cover color, font, or typographical corrections to the text do not require a new ISBN.

For electronic publications, it is only required that the work is not regularly updated without a specific periodicity set.
