Synopsis

Celso, a quem os cristãos chamaram de inimigo do Cristo, jamais combateu o Logos. Combateu, isto sim, a sua aprisionação. Combateu a redução do eterno ao episódico, do espírito ao dogma, do mistério à narrativa conveniente. Se escreveu contra os cristãos, foi porque percebeu antes de muitos que ali não nascia apenas uma religião, mas um governo da alma.

Conheci Celso quando ainda respirava o ar dos vivos, e o acompanhei depois que lhe foi imposto o castigo reservado aos hereges discretos: o esquecimento. Sua pena foi mais eficaz do que sua voz, e seu silêncio posterior mais eloquente do que seus escritos sobreviventes. Contra Celso, atribuído a Orígenes, não responde a Celso — o substitui. Onde Celso perguntava, Orígenes encerrava. Onde Celso abria fendas, Orígenes erguia muros.
