Human ignorance and stupidity, a direct consequence of
religious fanaticism, strengthened during the Medieval Period and
served as the basis for the creation of the Catholic Inquisition in
Europe around the 10th century. In the name of God, everything
was justified; millions of people were imprisoned, tortured, and
murdered for about a thousand years. Anchored in faith,
mentally ill men created the greatest holocaust in history,
simply because some people did not fit into the archaic
molds of Catholicism or its truths.
This novel, in addition to historical facts, depicts the life of
Madalena, a reactionary woman who, after having her family
torn apart by the Inquisition, decides to take revenge and fight
against the system. From sinner in history to heroine
in this fiction, Madalena is a model of a woman who never
existed but who seeks to reclaim the capacity for struggle and
defiance of the so-called weaker sex during one of the
most challenging periods in history for women.
